Dementia home will bring jobs to Fleetwood

People attending a community activity hub, similar to one Athena hopes to create in Fleetwood

The new home, by the Athena Healthcare Group, will be built on Laidleys Walk on the site of the former Lakeland view care home, with groundwork beginning this summer.

The home, which is expected to employ dozens of workers, will accommodate up to 80 residents in a specialist dementia care unit.

Steven Wylie, Athena CEO, said: “We are delighted with the news to build another superior residential care lodge with a fantastic sea fronted location, and we are looking to creating up to 60 full-time jobs right across the care sector.”

The healthcare group already owns other care homes in Lancashire, Sefton,Dover and Wirral.

It was given the thumbs up to build the new Fleetwood home after planning inspector Katie McDonald allowed an appeal on Wednesday.

The group also hopes to introduce a ‘Community Activity Hub’, which would see residents from care homes in the local area meet once a month for trips to restaurants and hotels.
