The council’s pay structure shows the director of people has a salary of between £120,000 and £125,000.

Ms Curtis fills the position left vacant following the departure of Carmel McKeogh earlier this year after taking voluntary redundancy.

A council spokesman said: “The role does not involve any extra salary but is an extra responsibility as Neil Jack’s deputy.

“Delyth currently runs the People’s Directorate, which includes children’s services and adult services. That will remain the same, she just takes on the deputy chief executive role as well.”

The appointment was made following a meeting of the council’s chief officers employment committee on Monday.
