PICTURES: A fitting end to Armed Forces Week
Thousands stood in poignant silence to mark the end of Armed Forces Week.
They gathered in tribute to soldiers killed in conflict, and to say thank-you to veterans and serving personnel.
The service, held at Blackpool’s War Memorial, was a serious end to the day’s activities.
Earlier, crowds took in the vintage and modern day military vehicle displays, and enjoyed an RAF flypast
St John’s Square played host to live acts on stage and military bands as well as replica Spitfire and ground crew.
Throughout the week, events were held ac ross the resort to commemorate armed forces.
These included a Music for Heroes concert at the Opera House and an Armed Forces Careers Information Day at the Houndshill Centre.
And schoolchildren took part in the “Going to the Flicks” project, taking them from the classroom to the Odeon cinema, Blackpool, for a special war-time experience.
Blackpool’s taxi drivers also held their annual taxi pull on the Promenade to raise funds for the armed forces.
