Deadline extended for woman of year awards

Nominations have been flooding in for the Fylde Woman of the Year awards, but the deadline has been extended a week to accommodate even more.

The annual event, held by MP Mark Menzies and the Lytham St Annes Express, aims to highlight the unsung heroes of the area.

Closing date for nominations is now Friday, March 3 - and Mr Menzies has been greatly encouraged by the volume of entries so far.

He said: “This campaign is about giving credit where it is due, and to highlight the work of many women that can go unrecognised. We are looking for the business leaders, carers, community stalwarts and volunteers who always go the extra mile.

“We are extremely lucky to have in this borough an army of community-minded people whose work improves the lives of countless others.

“I’m sure every reader of The Express knows at least one woman who fits the bill and deserves to be considered for the title.”

Current holder of the title is Pam Young of St Annes, renowned across Fylde for her work with disabled children and adults, while first winner was Christine Miller from Lytham, who worked tirelessly in the local community for many years.

She now takes a seat on the judging panel, along with Mr Menzies, former Lytham St Annes Business and Professional Women president Katie Fieldhouse, and Martin Evans, landlord of the Hand and Dagger in Salwick.

The award will be handed out during a special luncheon for invited guests at the Clifton Arms Hotel next month and nominations should go to Mark Menzies MP, Fylde Woman of the Year, the Office of Mark Menzies MP, House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA or via email to [email protected].
