POLICE closed a major thoroughfare after the arctic conditions caused ten cars to crash in an hour.
Officers told The Gazette a Toyota came off the carriageway on the A584 Freckleton Bypass at around 8am today and crashed into a lamppost, which then fell into the road.
Ten other cars were then involved in crashes along the same stretch before 9am in scenes police described as “horrendous”.
There have been eight deaths on the A584 Freckleton bypass in 10 years, and more than 100 people have been injured in trafﬁc accidents.
All today’s incidents were believed to be due to fog and ice.
