POULTON ice king Dan Whiston could be within a blade’s edge of being unable to skate on Dancing on Ice on Sunday.

The 34-year-old is waiting to see if medics will give him the all-clear to take to the ice on the show after he suffered a hamstring tear.

He has been undergoing intensive physio over the last few days and has only just started training again after the injury, which happened on Thursday.

He was rehearsing for the group dance for last Sunday’s show when injury struck.

His skating partner, TV and stage actress Jennifer Ellison, has been forced to train alone, so the couple did not lose too much time learning their choreography.

Dan said: “It’s been a stressful week. I’ve been having intensive physio every day and still don’t know if I’ll be able to skate on Sunday for our first routine. I haven’t been signed off yet, although I have been allowed back on to the ice.

“I’m going to have be very careful as it could go again at any time.

“But Jennifer is a true Northerner and has done really well. We’re just keeping our fingers crossed.”

It is now Dan’s seventh series of the hit ITV1 show, which he has won twice – most recently with his childhood friend, Hayley Tamaddon, from Bispham.
