Cyclist dies after road collision

A St Annes man has died after being involved in a road collision with a van.

Michael John Symes, 80, was cycling along Headroomgate Road in St Annes at around 11.10am on November 2 when he crashed with a white Renault van

near to the entrance to St Annes Parish Church.

Mr Symes was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital, where he died on Monday.

Sergeant 224 Rob Gomery from Blackpool’s Road Policing Unit said: “This is a tragic incident and my thoughts are with the family of Mr Symes at this very sad time.

“We are looking into how this collision has come to occur and so I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident to contact us.”

Mr Symes’ family have paid tribute to the ‘loving husband, doting father to three children and grandfather to four grandchildren’ who was ‘taken from us too soon’.
