Cycle ride to help raise awareness of mental health issues

Three ex-Army men landed in Blackpool during their 1,000 mile bike ride, entitled '˜Around the Country in 80 coffees'.

Having started in Edinburgh on June 25, Rob Dennison, Andy Price and Gav Carlos stopped overnight in Blackpool on June 29.

They were welcomed by Royal Navy veteran Amanda Crossley, who runs Blackpool-based concierge services Concierge Ninga.

Amanda said: “Coun Chris Ryan was there to welcome the cyclists which was fantastic to see and amazing to have his support.”

During their stay, the cyclists visited Blackpool Tower and cycled down to the RAF 2454 Squadron Centre, where they were greeted by cadets and member of staff John Topping.

Amanda added: “At the base, the cadets made us a fabulous afternoon tea which was perfect and refreshing.

“It was such a wonderful atmosphere and a major highlight from the day.”

Amanda also organised for the bikes to be checked over by Giant Store bike shop in Bispham and an evening for the cyclists at the Rockcliffe Hotel,where they enjoyed buffet style food, live singing and entertainment.

She added: “Concierge Ninja is hoping to be a point of contact for veterans to point them in the right direction and to also help the spouses of the veterans just in case they need help too.”

It is hoped the cycle challenge will raise awareness of mental health issues faced by veterans as well as money for three charities which support veterans.
