A man with a drug habit stole toys from the same store twice in one day.
Bernard Allen, aged 58, of The Promenade, Cleveleys, pleaded guilty to two offences of theft.
He was sentenced to nine months drug rehabilitation, fined £5 with £44 compensation and ordered to pay a £150 court charge by District Judge Joanne Hirst sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.
Martine Connah, prosecuting, said Allen twice stole toys from Argos, Victoria Road West, Cleveleys on April 15. When confronted by staff the last time he stole, Allen dropped the toys, saying: “You can have them.”
Allen told police he had a heroin habit of £40 a day and intended selling the toys to fund his habit.
Patrick Nelligan, defending, said his client had done well on a previous drug rehabilitation course and improved massively, but floundered a bit when it ended. Allen had had a blip in February when a woman friend had hung herself.
