A SHOP worker lost his part-time job after he stole a baby monitor from the store on his day off.

Benjamin Kerr, who worked eight hours a week at Home Bargains was identified from the store’s CCTV.

Kerr, a 21-year-old college student, of Cross Street, Fleetwood, pleaded guilty to theft.

He was sentenced to spend 24 hours at an attendance centre by District Judge Alan Jones sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Nicola Corney, prosecuting, said that on March 14 CCTV showed Kerr wandering around the store at Freeport Fleetwood, before picking up a baby monitor and walking out without paying.

Kerr was in breach of a 12-month conditional discharge imposed for a previous offence of stealing two packs of protein powder.

The court heard Kerr had taken the baby monitor for a woman friend. The woman paid him £25 for it.

Patrick Nelligan, defending, said: “At the time of the offence he was working eight hours at Home Bargains. He lost his job as a result. ”
