A CASHIER stole hundreds of pounds from the shop he worked at because he was in debt to a loan shark who had threatened to break his legs.

Martyn Thomas, 23, of Kirkby Drive, Freckleton, pleaded guilty to theft.

He was sentenced to do 80 hours unpaid work for the community by Blackpool magistrates (pictured above).

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, Thomas was working at Blackpool’s 99p Shop when at 4.10pm on September 22 he told colleagues he was going to the toilet.

But he never retuned to his till and when it was checked £422 was found to be missing.

Duncan Nightingale, defending, told magistrates Mr Thomas used the most of the money he took to give to the loan shark.
