A YOUNG woman turned to shoplifting in a bid to pay debts run up from buying cannabis.

Sally Westworth, 21, of Derby Road, Blackpool admitted three offences when she appeared before Blackpool Magistrates.

She twice stole food with the total value of £5.86 from a Sainsbury’s store in Oldham and then stole £15.24 of goods from Wilkinsons in Blackpool.

She also admitted being in breach of the terms of a conditional discharge order.

The court heard that Westworth started to offend in September last year.

“This came at a time when she was using cannabis and had built up debts getting the drug,” said her lawyer Steven Duffy.

He said his client had now reduced the amount of cannabis she was using.

Westworth was given 12 month supervision and she must do 50 hours unpaid work and pay compensation to the stores.
