Detectives have launched an investigation after a woman was stabbed in Blackpool.

The incident took place outside an address on Dinmore Avenue in Grange Park at about 1am today after an altercation led to a 37-year-old woman being stabbed.

She suffered a number of knife wounds to the body, face and neck and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Preston Hospital where she is in a serious but stable condition.

A 31-year-old man, who is known to the victim, was arrested a short time later on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.

Officers have recovered a knife handle from the scene and are searching for a blade. They are appealing for anyone who finds a knife blade not to touch it but to contact the police.

Detectives would also like to speak to anyone who witnessed the altercation.

Det Insp Gareth Willis, of Blackpool Police, said: “A woman has suffered very serious injuries and is lucky to be alive.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the attack or who has any information to get in touch. I would also appeal to anyone who finds the blade of a knife, perhaps in their garden, to contact the police straight away.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting log number 0053 of January 3.
