A woman who lied to police in an attempt to protect her boyfriend during a murder investigation has today been given nine months jail.

Carly Turner wrongly claimed to officers that Sean Conlon had not been present when Frank Chivers collapsed in his flat at Walter Robinson Court, Blackpool.

However, Conlon was in the living room at the time and had delivered a fatal kick which caused a bleed on the brain last August.

The 44-year-old man was jailed for life after been convicted of murdering 49-year-old Mr Chivers - the father of missing schoolgirl Paige Chivers.

Turner, 29, of Camden Road, Layton who had been staying with her boyfriend at the flat, had admitted an offence of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Her barrister told Preston Crown Court that her drug addiction and her feelings for her boyfriend and wanting to protect him, were factors preying on her mind at the time.
