A woman told police she went into a supermarket with the sole intention of stealing items in order to sell them, a magistrates’ court was told.

Rachel Allen, unemployed, 33, of Shaw Road, South Shore, admitted theft of packets of washing powder valued at £31 from an Iceland store.

She was given a 12 months conditional discharge.

And she was also ordered to pay £15 victims’ surcharge when she appeared before Blackpool Magistrates’ Court charged with the offence.

Gary McAnulty, defending, said his client, who had co-operated fully with the police throughout, had had a drugs problem.

But she was now on a rehabilitation course, he added.
