Upset man did not stop for police in pursuit

Brian Sanderson was on his way home from hospital where he had been told his wife was not going to live.

Sanderson, 74, of Collingwood Avenue, St Annes, was not present at court but pleaded guilty by letter to driving without due care and attention.

He was fined £135 with £65 costs plus £20 victims’ surcharge and had three motoring penalty points put on his driving licence by Blackpool magistrates.

Alison Quanbrough, said police saw Sanderson driving a Rover on Vicarage Lane, Marton on July 1 at 3.40pm. For no apparent reason he accelerated and overtook the vehicle in front at speed.

In a letter to the court Sanderson said he was on his way back from hospital.

He was thinking over the message in his mind he had been given, that his wife was not going to live.
