Update: Bispham robbery accused appears in court

A man appeared in court earlier today after being charged in connection with a string of serious crimes in Bispham.

Damien Eichner, 25, of no fixed address, was charged last night with two counts of attempted robbery, one count of theft, and one count of robbery, a spokesman for Lancashire Police said.

He appeared before magistrates in Blackpool for a short hearing.

He was remanded in custody and will next appear at Preston Crown Court on Wednesday, October 11, a court official said.

On Sunday afternoon, a man threatened staff at Bispham Local Store in Bispham Road, Select Convenience in Holmfield Road, and McColl's in Norbreck Road.

He fled with £200 - understand to have been taken from McColl's - in a black Nissan, which was abandoned in Devonshire Road, sparking a huge manhunt.

Staff at the shops, which were reopen yesterday, were shaken but unharmed.
