TRAVELLING criminals are the target for police as they step up their operation to crack down on crime across the Fylde coast.

Officers have been targeting the main entrances and exits into Blackpool in a bid to trap the criminals coming into the resort with the intention of committing crime.

Operation Allegro launched last week and has seen officers stationed on key routes, such as the A583, at night and early in the morning to pull in vehicles and speak to drivers about their movements,

Insp Keith Ogle, geographic inspector for Fylde, said: “It is aimed at commercial and other vehicles passing through the division at night on the main thoroughfares. It is targeting travelling criminals who are coming into the Fylde.

“The operation is linked to things like metal thefts and we are looking for people who are carrying out commercial theft.

“Up to now we’ve got useful intelligence from it and we’ve had a lot of positive response from members of the public.”
