Geoffrey Morgan was identified from CCTV and the bike was found in a cowshed at the farm he was staying at.

Morgan, 50, of Lytham Road, Warton, pleaded guilty to theft of a bicycle valued at £450.

He was fined £35 with £20 victims’ surcharge but could not pay immediately so Blackpool magistrates said time he had already spent in custody would serve instead of the financial penalties.

Nigel Harrison, prosecuting, said a man left his bike outside the Clifton Arms, Warton, and when he returned for it the next day it had gone.

CCTV from the pub showed Morgan stealing the bike on November 24 about 5am. Steven Townley, defending, said Morgan liked fresh air and had been spending time in a caravan on a Warton Farm.

Mr Townley added: “His own bike got a puncture. He walked for a few days, but his legs got tired. He then came upon the bike left at the pub.”
