A son told his mother he was going to burn down her Blackpool hotel.

Gavin Myers, 29, formerly of Cropper Road, Marton, now of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to threatening to burn down The Lanes Hotel.

He was given a six-month conditional discharge with £85 costs and £15 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Nicola Corney, prosecuting, said Myers returned to his mother’s home drunk on April 18.

She asked him to leave. He said: “If you call the police I will go into the dining room and set the hotel on fire.”

Patrick Nelligan, defending, said Myers had hoped to rebuild his relationship with his mother.
