A thief made himself comfortable when he broke into a seafront hotel room.

Michael Myers used the tea making facilities to make a hot drink. Then he lay down on the bed and enjoyed a cigarette and ate a bowl of fruit.

He then took a pair of shoes and left his own pair in their place.

Finally 54-year-old Myers of South Promenade,St Annes, decided to steal a £500 Pierre Cardin watch leaving his old one behind.

Myers admitted burgling room 221 at the Viking Hotel, South Shore. The town’s magistrates remanded him in custody so reports can be prepared on him and warned him he could be facing jail.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said that Myers was caught after a cigarette butt was examined and his DNA was found on it.

When he was arrested he was still wearing the expensive watch.

John McLaren, defending, said that his client had started to drink after his marriage had ended.

“Things have been difficult as he and his estranged wife work in the same place,” he added.
