William Brown, 37, assault and criminal damage

A scaffolding firm boss came close to being jailed.

William ‘Billy’ Brown was told by magistrates he was being given a suspended prison sentence because his workers faced being jobless if he went behind bars.

Brown, 37, of Fairview Road, St Annes, had admitted assaulting his female partner and criminal damage to her handbag.

He had been committing high-level domestic violence, the court was told.

Brown was given a 14-week jail sentence suspended for two years. He must also pay £815 costs and handed a restraining order.

During one row, Brown threw a glass at his partner, narrowly missing her head, the court was told.

In another, he demanded her mobile phone and kicked her in her gut.

He grabbed her bag as she tried to leave the house and argued with her in the street.

The couple have since split up, the court was told.

Darren Hinchcliffe, 33, breach of the peace

A Fleetwood man was arrested after police were called to a flat disturbance.

Darren Hinchcliffe, 33, of Mount Road admitted breaching the peace when he appeared before magistrates.

He was bound over for a year to keep the peace in the sum of £100.

Pam Smith,prosecuting, said police attended the flat where they found Hinchcliffe in an intoxicated state. He was abusive to officers and had thrown things around the flat. He apologised for his behaviour.

Liam McGill, 29, threatening behaviour

A man was asked to leave his partner’s home after they rowed.

Liam McGill then threatened the woman pushing a wheelie bin at her whilst holding a screwdriver, magistrates heard.

The 29-year-old was found guilty in his absence of threatening behaviour.

In a statement his victim said she was now scared to leave her property.

The court heard how despite being banned from the road, McGill, of Clifford Road, Blackpool, bought a car and drove it to a park to walk his dog.

He admitted disqualified driving and having no vehicle tax or insurance . He had £200 was seized by police.

McGill, who had previous convictions for disqualified driving, was jailed for 26 weeks.

He was banned from driving for four years and must pay a £122 victim surcharge.

John Coates, 40, actual bodily harm

A Fleetwood man has been sent for sentence at Preston Crown Court.

John Coates , 40, of Bold Street, admitted causing his partner actual bodily harm on February 1.

District Judge Jane Goodwin said her powers of sentencing were insufficient. She ordered probation reports on Coates who was remanded in custody until he appears at the higher court on March 4.

Kelvin Parkinson, 32, drink driving

A man had drunk five cans of cider before he got behind the wheel of his girlfriend’s car

Kelvin Parkinson was driving from Kirkham to St Annes along the A583 when police spotted his vehicle weaving on a long straight stretch of road.

They pulled over Parkinson, 32, of Crosby Road, St Annes, who gave them an incorrect date of birth.

A breath test showed he was over the limit and investigations showed he also had a driving ban. Parkinson admitted drinkdriving, disqualified driving and driving without insurance.

District Judge Jane Goodwin told him: “You were driving just a short time after being banned.”

She jailed him for four weeks after being told he was being recalled to finish a prison term. He was also banned from driving for three years and must pay £122 costs.

His lawyer, Stephen Duffy, told the court: “My client was compliant. One of my colleagues saw the police dashcam footage and that did not reveal bad driving in his opinion.”

Christopher McCourt, 43, drug driving

A building site worker was caught drug driving after a night’s partying.

When Christopher McCourt drove to the shops the following day he was stopped by police doing a routine check along Devonshire Road, Blackpool.

McCourt, 43, of Raymond Avenue, Blackpool, admitted driving under the influence of cocaine,cannabis and a cannabis derivative.

He was given an eight-week jail term, suspended for a year, made to do 100 hours work for the community and pay £207 costs.

The court heard he did not realise the drugs were still in his system.
