Kieron Beresford, 21, affray and assault

A man lost his temper after being told visiting hours at Blackpool Victoria Hospital were over – and pushed a medic and assaulted an NHS security officer.

Kieron Beresford, 21, a stables worker of Birkside Way, Mereside, pleaded guilty to affray and two counts of assault.

He was given a 12-month community order with 20 days’ rehabilitation to be supervised by the probation service. He was also ordered to spend 12 hours at an attendance centre and to pay £80 compensation with £85 costs and £90 victims’ surcharge.

The attack happened in an acute medical ward on Tuesday, August 6 last year, the court was told.

Beresford had drunk eight cans of lager before being told his brother was in hospital. He became abusive inside the Vic’s reception area when he was told no information could be released, and then made his way to the ward where he was told visiting time was finished.

He then pushed a nurse and his behaviour escalated when a security guard came to escort him away, the court was told.

A report to the court by probation officer Lesley Whittaker said Beresford has had problems controlling his temper since he was a young boy. His dad was murdered when he was just six, and his mum killed herself when he was 16.

Beresford told District Judge Jane Goodwin: “What I did was disgusting.”

Robert Arghir, 23, drug-driving

A driver was found with cannabis in his system after being pulled over by police.

Robert Arghir, 23, of Holmfield Road, North Shore, admitted drug-driving.

He was banned from driver for 12 months, fined £250 with £85 costs, and told to pay £32 victims’ surcharge.

Prosecutor Pam Smith said police officers saw Arghir driving an Audi TT in Warbreck Hill Road at around 11.40pm on Saturday, August 31 last year, which was flagged up as having no MoT.

After stopping Arghir, one of the officers could smell cannabis on Arghir – with a blood test showing 4.7 units of the drug in his system. The legal limit is two.

Patrick Nelligan, defending, said his client had been in the country for three years, had no previous convictions, and had pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.

Ann-Marie Mullard, 38, drunk and disorderly

A Kirkham woman was fined £337 in her absence for being drunk and disorderly in the town.

Ann-Marie Mullard, 38, of Freckleton Street, had her case heard in her absence after she failed to turn up to court.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said Mullard was found by police behaving drunkenly at The Stables in Preston Street. She was abusive and started to kick out at officers, who had to use PAVA spray to arrest her.

James Smalley, 23, assault and criminal damage

A Wesham man has denied attacking a woman in a pub car park.

James Smalley, 23, of Station Road, also denied causing £400 damage to a Toyota car in the same place –The Shovels in Hambleton.

His trial was fixed for April 22, and he was given bail in the meantime.

Jordan Teale, 24, drug-driving

A grieving Blackpool landscape gardener was caught drug-driving after his car hit a road sign.

Jordan Teale, 24, of Repton Avenue, Blackpool, left the scene of the smash but was later arrested by police.

Tests showed both cocaine and cannabis in his system.

Teale admitted drug-driving and was banned from the roads for a year. He was also told to pay £175 costs and complete 80 hours’ unpaid work.His lawyer Brett Chappell said: “This young

man has been through a lot. Both his parents died in the space of a year.”

Paul Lackey, 53, drink-driving

A man who was over the legal drink-drive limit crashed his car into a pond after popping out for some milk in the morning.

Paul Lackey, 53, of Cyprus Avenue, St Annes, lost control of his car before crashing the Citroen Picasso into the pond on the sandhills on the Inner Promenade opposite the AKS school, the court was told.

When police arrived, shortly after 8.40am on Saturday, January 18, paramedics were examining Lackey, who smelt of booze.

He said he had been drinking the night before and had skidded on black ice. “I know I’m over, I’m an alcoholic,” he said. A breath test showed 63 microgrammes of alcohol in Lackey’s system. The limit is 35.

Lackey, who had a previous drink-drive conviction and was on a community order with an alcohol treatment requirement, pleaded guilty and was banned from driving for 18 months, fined £415 with £85 costs, and told to pay £41 victims’ surcharge.
