Kyle Appleby, 18, threatening a person with a knife, possessing two blades and theft

A teenager who threatened a shop assistant with a knife after stealing from a store has avoided being sent to prison.

Kyle Appleby pulled out the weapon and told the male assistant: “Do you want some of this” before fleeing.

Appleby, 18, of Loftos Avenue, Marton, pleaded guilty to threatening a person with a knife, possessing two blades and theft.

He was sentenced to 26 weeks imprisonment suspended for two years, put on a community order with up to 35 days rehabilitation to be supervised by the probation service and ordered to pay £150 compensation by Blackpool magistrates.

Prosecutor, Rebecca Seymour, said Appleby went into Smiley’s convenience store, Watson Road, and stole four bottles of Lucozade valued at £3 on September 2.

When the store assistant challenged him and told him to stop as he tried to leave Appleby produced a knife and threatened him.

Police caught him four streets away and found he had two kitchen knives on him.

Gary McAnulty, defending, said his client, who had no previous convictions, had had lots of problems at home.

Appleby had mental health issues and believed people kept looking at him, which was why he carried the knives.

Jamie Clark, 28, in charge of a car while over the alcohol limit

A bar worker who had been drinking was found by police in a car which had stopped.

Jamie Clark, 28, of Buttermere Avenue, Fleetwood, pleaded guilty to being in charge of a car while over the alcohol limit.

He was fined £80 with £85 costs plus £32 victims’ surcharge and had 10 motoring penalty points put on his licence.

Prosecutor, Rebecca Seymour, said police received information a Vauxhall Corsa had been swerving around the road on February 17 at 1.50am.

They saw the car stopped on Conway Avenue with its engine on.A breath test showed 88 microgrammes of alcohol in Clark’s body - 35 is the limit.

Patrick Nelligan, defending, said his client, who had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity, would lose both his bar and care work jobs if he was disqualified from driving.

Anthony Gage, 34, drunk and disorderly

A man in McDonalds at Blackpool on Valentine’s Day told a police officer: “You’re lucky I didn’t stab you, I’ve done it before.”

Anthony Gage, 34, of Edison Road, Eccles, pleaded guilty by letter to being drunk and disorderly.

He was given an 18 months conditional discharge and ordered to pay £21 victims’ surcharge. Prosecutor, Sophie Gillespie, said a police officer went into McDonalds and Gage started being abusive to him on February 14 at 11.45pm.

Gage swore and asked the officer what he was doing in there and said he was going to get his car and run the officer over. After making a remark about stabbing the officer Gage struggled and resisted when he was arrested. Gage had a record of 81 previous offences, the last one being for affray.

Shaun Kay, 28, drug driving

A driver confessed to smoking cannabis after he was pulled over in a routine check by police.

Shaun Kay, 28, formally of Blundell Road, St Annes, now living at Station Road, Bamber Bridge, Preston, pleaded guilty to drug driving.

He was banned from the road for three years, put on a 12 weeks curfew from 7pm to 7am and ordered to pay £85 costs with £90 victims’ surcharge.

Prosecutor, Rebecca Seymour, said police stopped Kay’s Volkswagen Polo in Fleetwood Road, Greenhalgh, to check his documents on September 5 at 1.50am.Kay confessed he had smoked cannabis and a blood test showed 6.3 units of the drug in his body - 2 is the limit,He had a previous drug driving conviction from last year and at the time of the offence was on a community order.Martin Hillson, defending, said there had been no criticism of his client’s driving. Kay had admitted to the police officer he had smoked cannabis and he had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.

Unnamed teenager, 17, racially aggravated harassment

A 17-year-old Fleetwood youth has appeared a court facing an allegation of committing racially aggravated harassment at New Scotland Yard.

The youth -who cannot be named for legal reasons - is said to have committed the offence at the headquarters of the Metropolitan Police in January.

District Judge Jane Goodwin sitting at Blackpool Youth Court remanded him on bail pending a review of his case. He is also charged with the harassment of police officers at Charing Cross police station, London, also in January.
