Thilakshana Shanthakumar, 33, failing to provide a specimen of breath

A mother who had been drinking had her six months old baby in the car with her.Thilakshana Shanthakumar, 33, of Mariners Close, Fleetwood, pleaded guilty to failing to provide a breath specimen for alcohol testing.

She was sentenced to a 12 months community order with up to 30 days rehabilitation to be supervised by the probation service, banned from driving for three years and fined £20 with £90 victims’ surcharge.

Prosecutor, Rebecca Seymour, said police stopped the defendant on February 6, at about 9.15pm, after describing her as unable to drive in a straight line.

Her six-month-old baby was in a baby seat in the front.

A breath test showed 85 microgrammes of alcohol in her body – 35 is the limit, but at the police station she failed to take the breathalyser test required.

When interviewed she told police she had drunk a bottle of rose wine.

She had a previous conviction from 2017 for failing to provide a breath specimen.

In a report to the court, probation officer Lesley Whittaker, said the defendant had had problems with alcohol which had escalated.

She suffered from anxiety and depression and after her last offence she felt ashamed and isolated herself from family and friends.

The day of the offence she and her husband had a row and she was not thinking clearly. She just wanted to get away. She had not drunk since.

Demi Mawdsley, 22, criminal damage

A woman lost her temper and damaged shop doors when staff refused to serve her alcohol.

Demi Mawdsley, unemployed, 22, of Brighton Avenue, South Shore, pleaded guilty to causing damage.

She was sentenced to a two months curfew from 7pm to 7am and ordered to pay £100 compensation.

Prosecutor, Sophie Gillespie, said Mawdsley went into Tesco, Lytham Road, on the evening of February 13 ,and asked to buy alcohol. She was refused as staff described her as drunk.

She then swung bottles of wine around before kicking the shop’s sliding doors off their runners and spitting on them.

The damage was said to be going to cost £1,000 to repair.

Peter Manning, defending, said his client was frustrated and angry at not being able to buy some alcohol and she apologised for her behaviour.

Demileigh Burnett, 23, drink-driving

A hairdresser was twice over the alcohol limit when she crashed her BMW in Blackpool causing a gas leak.

Demileigh Burnett then left the accident scene and when apprehended by police lied about her name and said she had not been the driver. Burnett, 23, of Chaucer Avenue, Radcliffe,

Manchester, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

She was disqualified from driving for 22 months, fined £190 with £85 costs and ordered to pay £32 victims’ surcharge.

Presiding magistrate, Simon Bridge, told her: “This could have had disasterous consequences.

“You must have been driving at high speed or going too fast to cause that amount of damage.”

Prosecutor, Sophie Gillespie, said police were called to Lytham Road, South Shore, on February 16, at about 4am, where Burnett had crashed her BMW Sport and the road was cordoned off by the fire brigade as the crash had caused a gas leak.

Burnett was later found in a car park. She at first lied about her name but then confessed she had been the driver.

She was abusive to police and an officer described her as showing no emotion or contrition for what she had done.

Police who viewed CCTV footage of the crash, said it showed a high speed high impact collision.

A breath test showed 70 microgrammes of alcohol in her body – 35 is the limit.

Patrick Nelligan, defending, said his client, who had no previous convictions, had been visiting her cousin in the resort and after a night out on which she had drunk vodka and

Desperadoes realised her car was parked partly on a bus stop and decided to move it.

There was a storm at the time and she took a corner too quickly and lost control.

Daniel Johnson, 25, burglary with intent to cause grievous bodily harm

A 25-year-old Blackpool man has been sent to Preston Crown Court charged with burglary with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Daniel Johnson was remanded in custody until his appearance at that court on March 11. Johnson is charged in connection with an incident at flats on Palatine Road.
