A couple who got caught in the rain stole from a shop to get money for the bus fare home.

Anthony Gilligan, 42, and Anna-Marie Billing, 42, both of Windsor Avenue, South Shore, admitted theft of coffee valued at £23.

Billing was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £15 victims’ surcharge by District Judge Sam Goozee sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

He deferred sentence on Gillian for three months to see how he fares on an alcohol rehabilitation course.
