A tenant punched a fire alarm panel until it fell off the wall and then ripped out its wires after spending the day drinking.

Martin Standrell, 28, of Iddon Court, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to causing £1,000 worth of damage.

He was sentenced to a 12 months community order with up to 25 days rehabilitation to be supervised by the probation service, put on a two weeks curfew from 9pm to 7am and ordered to pay £500 compensation, by Blackpool magistrates.

Alison Quanbrough, prosecuting, said on October 3 at 2am the fire alarm went off at a block on flats in Iddon Court, which is owned by Blackpool Coastal Housing.

Standrell and another man were seen hitting the fire alarm panel until it fell off and they then ripped out the wires until the alarm stopped.

When interviewed Standrell said he has been out drinking all day.
