Police chased a BMW across Blackpool last night after it failed to stop.

Officers had tried to pull the black 318i over in Exchange Street, North Shore, after they saw its occupants ‘acting suspiciously’ at around 10.45pm, but it instead sped off.

They pursued it across Claremont playing fields towards Devonshire Road, down Waverley Avenue, and onto Warbreck Hill Road.

Police say it finally stopped in Armadale Road, off Warbreck Hill Road, at 10.50pm, around two miles from where the chase started five minutes earlier.

One neighbour described seeing a dark coloured car being chased across Claremont field, behind Claremont Community Primary School.

“I could still hear sirens and then the police helicopter but couldn’t see much else,” she said.

The National Police Air Service (NPAS) said a chopper was tasked with helping with the chase at 10.48pm but stood down as it arrived, and did not become involved in the pursuit.

* Two 16-year-olds have been arrested in connection with last night’s chase. One was held on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking.

The other was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking and drink/drug driving.

Both remain in custody this morning.
