POLICE tasered a man after he barricaded himself in a flat and then tried to jump out of a window.

Christopher Gaydon, 34, formerly of Palatine Road, Blackpool, now living at Angleton Green, Manor Estate, Sheffield, pleaded guilty to two offences of damage when he appeared before Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said Gaydon barricaded himself into a flat on Palatine Road he shared with his girlfriend on April 19 and 20.

He kicked a door, damaging the lock and smashed a window.

Peter Cave, defending, said Gaydon’s girlfriend had mental health problems.

When he kicked in the door he believed she was inside a room trying to harm herself with a knife.

Gaydon then believed his girlfriend was falsely going to claim he had tried to assault her.

Mr Cave added: “He broke the window and it was his intention to jump out, but the police were able to taser him.

“He is no longer with his partner.”

Gaydon was ordered to pay £100 compensation by magistrate who imposed no other penalty after hearing he had spent the weekend in the cells.
