A man punched a takeaway worker he believed had been “coming on” to his girlfriend.

Liam Maddock, 23, of Chapel Street, pleaded guilty to assault and breaching a court order.

He was sentenced to six weeks imprisonment suspended for 12 months, put on one year’s supervision and ordered to pay £65 compensation by Blackpool magistrates.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said Maddock saw a man on Abingdon Street who had worked with his girlfriend at a takeaway on October 14 at 4.35pm.

Maddock spoke to him about there being an issue between his girlfriend and the worker. He then punched the worker four to five times in the ear.

Trevor Colebourne, defending, said his client had no convictions for assault and was not a violent man but he had been severely provoked.
