A FORMER Blackpool barman wanted in connection with the murders of his landlady and her mother has been arrested.

Barry Morrow, 51, had not been seen since Saturday when the bodies of Angela Holgate and her mother, Alice Huyton were found at Mrs Holgate’s address in Southport.

They had both been strangled.

Police launched a Europe-wide manhunt for Morrow, who once lived in the town and worked at Blackpool Flight Academy, off Squires Gate Lane, after he was spotted in France.

It is believed he still has family in the town.

Friends started posting messages to the sender expressing their support for Mr Morrow, and urged him to get in contact with the police.

Later, Keith Rennison, of Donald Race and Newton solicitors, confirmed he had been instructed to act on behalf of Mr Morrow.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: “We have arrested a 51-year-old man from Southport on suspicion of the murder of Alice Huyton and Angela Holgate in Fairhaven Road, Southport.”

John Huyton, Mrs Huyton’s son and Miss Holgate’s brother, said their deaths had “devastated” the family.

He said: “Alice Huyton and her daughter, Angela Holgate, were integral cogs in our close knit family.

“Both Alice and Angela were very popular and led active lives and had many friends.

“They meant so much in the eyes of different family members and held the roles of great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, wife, aunty, sister and sister-in-law. The sad loss has had a severe impact on the whole family.”
