A tree surgeon blamed strong German beer for being over the limit while driving.

Luke Price was pulled up after police saw him taking a bend wide, crossing onto the wrong side of the road.

Price, a 31-year-old father-of-two, of Chapel Street, Marton, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

He was banned from the road for 12 months, fined £140 with £85 costs and ordered to pay a £150 court charge plus £20 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said a police patrol saw Price in a Ford Focus going wide round a bend on Preston New Road on November 19 about midnight.

Price had drunk a large bottle of German beer which was stronger than he thought and he believed it has put him over the drink-drive limit.
