A man has been bailed following the stabbing of a woman at a ground floor flat in Fleetwood.

The 62-year-old was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after police were called to a home on Hatfield Avenue at around 3pm on Wednesday.

The woman, 45, who suffered at least one stab wound to her stomach, remains in a 'poorly' condition at Royal Preston Hospital.

A statement released by Lancashire Police earlier this evening confirmed the man was released on conditional bail until August 25.

Earlier today, detectives were granted extra time to quiz him after holding him for 24 hours, the maximum allowed without an extension.

Police remained on guard outside the flat, which was taped off, earlier today.

Enquiries are ongoing, police added, and witnesses have been asked to call 101, quoting log number 881 of June 8.
