A man seen driving at high speed with a defective rear light was over the alcohol limit.

Andrew Boyle, 33, of Ansdell Road North, Ansdell, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

He was banned from the road for 40 months, fined £205 with £85 costs and ordered to pay £21 victims’ surcharge with a £150 court charge by District Judge Rod Ross sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Martine Connah, prosecuting, said a police patrol saw Boyle driving a Ford Fiesta at high speed with a defective rear light on Church Road, St Annes on April 18 at 1.30am.

A breath test showed 57 micrograms of alcohol in his body – 35 is the limit. He had a previous drink-drive conviction from 2012.

Boyle told the judge: “I should have known better and not had a drink before I drove.”
