A man who held a knife to his partner’s throat and made chilling threats has been jailed for 63 weeks.
Jealous Andrew Turner, 25, of Burlington Road, South Shore, cut himself in front of the terrified mum, telling her: “Look what you’ve made me do.”
He pleaded guilty to assault and making threats to kill while on a suspended jail sentence.
The frightening incident took place in the victim’s home on June 18, Preston’s Sessions House court was told.
Prosecuting, Jeremy Grout-Smith said: “They had been in a relationship for 18 months and had been living together and have a child together.
“Just after 12.30am the defendant attended the property, it would appear he had been drinking and he started banging on the door.
“He started to shout through the letter box: ‘Let me see my kids’.”
The court heard he was refused entry and told to return at a more reasonable time.
Turner then kicked in the front door and ran upstairs, where the woman was in her bedroom.
She went downstairs and an argument broke out in which she said she would call police.
Turner deliberately cut himself with a knife and threatened to kill himself, before holding the knife to her face. The court was told she was ‘so scared she could barely breathe’.
However, he returned later, telling her if she ever had another man it would be ‘the last thing’ she would ever do.
Judge Graham Knowles said: “The incident where you cut yourself was clearly to install more fear in her. It was an absolutely disgraceful offence.”
