A former soldier who was suffering from post traumatic stress broke into a car dealership and stole almost £4,000.

Craig Rourke had now turned his life around and had been accepted back into the Army a court heard.

Rourke, 23, of Hornby Road, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to burglary and was bailed to January 8 for sentence by Blackpool magistrates.

Prosecuters said on July 23 a witness called police after seeing glass broken in the door of Liam James Car Sales in Church Street, Blackpool.

£3,900 had been taken from a cabinet and blood matched Rourke’s.

Steven Townley, defending, said Rourke had been discharged from the Army after suffering from post traumatic stress.

As a civvy Rourke found himself homeless and jobless.

Mr Townley added: “He maintains he only stole £2,000 and he has already paid back £1,700.”
