A SINGLE mother-of-two illegally claimed benefits while employed as a support worker for people with learning disabilities.
Gemma Kenny, 31, of North Albion Street, Fleetwood, pleaded guilty to two offences of making a false statement to obtain benefits.
She was given an 18-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £15 costs by Blackpool magistrates.
Pam Smith, prosecuting, said benefit fraud investigators were tipped off Kenny was working. Inquiries revealed she was employed as a support worker for learning disability services.
She illegally claimed £3,490 in income support as well as housing and council tax benefits.
Imran Majid, defending, said his client, who had no previous convictions, was only employed on a casual basis and some weeks was given no work at all.
Kenny was the sole provider for her family and both she and her son had suffered ill health and been in hospital.
