She was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay compensation of £19 with £85 costs plus £15 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Chapman stole food from Tesco Express, St Annes Road West, St Annes, when she did not scan the items through a self-service till on June 27.

Two days later she took a bottle of wine from the same shop.

David Charnley, defending, said: “She said it was moments of madness.”
