A bungling thief who hired two mobility scooters on his trip to Blackpool then decided to take them back to his home town to sell them.

But Paul James chose the wrong place to carry out his plan when he started to load the scooters on to a friend’s van right outside the resort’s main police station (pictured).

Police watched the suspicious activity and then moved in and saw the two scooters had signs on them indicating they belonged to Blackpool Wheelchair Hire.

James, 35, of Runcorn, Cheshire, admitted theft of the scooters together valued at £1,200. Blackpool magistrates ordered pre sentence reports on him.

His lawyer Daniel Harman told the court: “He was out to make a quick buck to put it bluntly.”
