A scooter driver was over the alcohol limit when he turned in front of a car and crashed into it.

Patrick Wadsworth, 31, of Winton Avenue, Marton, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

He was banned from the road for 12 months and fined £260 with £85 costs plus £26 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Martine Connah, prosecuting, said that on February 15, at 6.15pm, Wadsworth was driving a Piaggio Typhoon scooter along Newhouse Road when he failed to give way at a junction. He collided with a Peugeot driven by a woman.

A breath test showed 53 micrograms of alcohol in his body – 35 is the limit.

Wadsworth told the court: “It was just stupidity. It won’t happen again. Family members have told me I’m not safe enough to drive a bike. It has been sold.”
