A fitter who was over the limit during the morning rush-hour caused a crash in which a woman was injured.

Stephen Cox made a u-turn in his Ford Transit van on Clifton Drive, Blackpool, at 8.45am on November 13, turning into the path of a woman’s car.

Cox, 24, of Rivacre Road, Ellesmere Port, admitted drink-driving.

He was banned from the road for 12 months and fined for £250 with £85 costs plus £25 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said the woman driver of the Micra was taken to hospital by ambulance. A breath test showed Cox had 47 micrograms of alcohol in his body - 35 is the limit.

Cox, who had no previous convictions, told magistrates he had been working in the area at the time and he was deeply sorry for his behaviour.
