He spent weeks in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool in a critical condition and is never expected to full recover.

Raszkiewicz, 33, of Central Drive, Blackpool, has been caged for three years and two months following the attack, which happened during an argument in the early hours of Sunday, November 22 last year.

He will be sent back to his home country of Poland when he is released, Preston Crown Court heard this morning.

Det Sgt Chris Williams, from Lancashire Police’s major investigation team, said: “I am pleased that today justice has been served for this poor child and that Raszkiewicz, who has never displayed any remorse for his actions, is now behind bars.

“Raszkiewicz showed no regard for the safety and welfare of this defenceless baby, who should have been safe in the arms of his mother but instead has been left with brain damage so bad that he will need specialist medical help for the rest of his life. Today my thoughts remain with him and his family.”
