A prolific thief hid packets of cold meat in the waistband of his trousers, a magistrates court was told.
Kevin McGowan, 47, of South Square, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to theft.
He was given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £26 compensation.
He must also pay a £15 victims’ surcharge, Blackpool Magistrates’ Court told him.
Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said McGowan was stopped by police on Central Drive, Blackpool, and searched on July 5.
He had eight packets of meat on him which he had stolen from the nearby Tesco Express. McGowan had 98 previous convictions for theft, the court was told.
Howard Green, defending, said his client had pleaded guilt at the earliest opportunity.
