Ashleigh Burke, 22, said she put her foot down after the men shattered her windscreen at around 9.20pm yesterday.

The mum-to-be, who works as a healthcare assistant at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, now faces forking out for a new windscreen for her black Ford Fiesta.

It was wrecked in Butler Street, just off Gorton Street in Talbot Road, and will cost around £100 to put right.

Ashleigh, of Onslow Road in Layton, said: "I was driving down the road and two lads stepped out. I was not going that fast so I slowed down to let them across the road, and I just saw a bat come round.

"I tried driving into them because I did not know what to do, and they just smashed my window."

Ashleigh, whose 33-year-old boyfriend was in the car with her, said she 'drove that fast' she doesn't know if she hit the pair, but said neither were knocked to the ground or visibly injured.

After driving home, she said she called her parents before ringing police, who said they are now investigating.

"There's no harm to me at all," Ashleigh added. "I was more interested in my baby. I'm just angry it will cost me nearly £100 to get the car fixed when I'm saving up for the baby."

She hopes nearby residents with CCTV, or motorists with dashboard cameras, will have caught the attack on camera and be able to help catch the duo.

She said one of the men was wearing the hat and overweight, while the other was tall and slim, and that her unborn baby is fine.

She said she doesn't know why she was targeted.

A spokeswoman for Lancashire Police said officers were called at 9.49pm yesterday to a report of 'vehicle crime' in Gorton Street.

She said the report stated 'two people have hit a vehicle with a baseball bat'.

The pair were described as being white men wearing dark clothes, with the force appealing for anybody with information to call police on 101, quoting log number 1570 of Wednesday, March 7, 2018.
