Praise for police dog Ron after late night chase

A police dog has been hailed for its role in a late-night chase which ended with a burglary suspect being arrested.

The incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday with police being led across Poulton by the man they were pursuing.

Police were alerted to a break in at business premises in Robson Way, Blackpool at around 20 past midnight, sparking the chase.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “We were called around 12.20am on Tuesday after reports a vehicle had collided with some gates at an address close to Robson Way, Blackpool.

“Police attended and pursued a white Ford Transit van towards the River Wyre area.

“The vehicle stopped close to Thornton Lodge and several males made off from the area.

“Patrols including a police dog unit helped to arrest one man.”

The police dog involved in the stop was called Ron.

And his pace in pursuit of the suspect was hailed by his handlers.

Lancashire Police Dog Unit posted news of the arrest on its social media accounts.

It read: “PD Ron has been busy again.

“In the early hours of Tuesday morning a burglary at business premises in Poulton was reported.

“A van was seen leaving the area at high speed.

“Ron and his handler weren’t far away and quickly spotted a van travelling at speed.

“The van failed to stop for the officer and a brief pursuit ensued prior to the van being abandoned.

“The driver of the van tried to out-run Ron but to no avail. He was quickly detained.

n Luke Anyon, 21, of Hatfield Avenue, Fleetwood, was later charged with failing to stop and bailed to appear at Blackpool magistrates’ court on October 12.
