A FORMER hotel porter stole steak from a store after getting into debt.
Thomas Kenny, 51, of Barry Holiday Flats, The Promenade, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to theft when he appeared before resort magistrates
Martine Connah, prosecuting, said that on February 20 Kenny was caught with £15 worth of steak from Lidl.
He said he had intended stealing the meat as he only had 10p on him.
Hugh Pond, defending, said his client had kept out of trouble for five years.
Kenny had been on the heroin substitute methadone and this enabled him to hold down a job. The methadone was stopped when he missed an appointment with his drug worker. He then lost his job and got into debt.
Kenny was given a 12-month conditional discharge.
