Police in spice '˜scourge' vow after Blackpool drug raid

Officers raided a property on Caunce Street yesterday morning following a tip off.

And police said the arrests were part of their efforts to rid the resort’s streets of the “scourge” of spice.

Three men – aged 27, 28 and 31 – and a woman, 26, were last night due to be quizzed in connection with drugs and cash seized during the raid.

Insp David Wilson, of Blackpool Police, said: “We have been saying for a while that we rely on the community to tell us about drug dealers in the community, and we promised that we would act on that information.

“I hope this further proves our commitment to tackling the scourge of drugs on the streets of Blackpool and I hope it will seriously impact on the amount of spice circulating around Blackpool town centre.”

Members of the neighbourhood policing team, supported by tactical officers, raided the property at around 8.35am.

Inside they found “prepared drug deals” along with money, which were seized.

The four occupants were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a class B drug, police said.

Insp Wilson added: “We will continue to act on information received and encourage people to pass information via CrimeStoppers or direct via email on [email protected].”

Spice, formerly a so-called legal high, was reclassified as a class B drug in December 2016 as part of the Government’s reform of drug laws.
