He was given a 12- month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs with £20 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates who ordered destruction of the drugs.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said officers were on an inquiry at Walton’s block of flats on April 11 when an officer smelled cannabis.

Walton showed officers where the plants were. He had a previous caution for producing cannabis.

Leisa Splaine, defending, said Walton used the cannabis to alleviate chronic back pain.
