The drama unfolded just after 8.10pm when police were called to reports of a male on the roof of West Street car park.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "A member of the public did a really good job in engaging with the male and talking to him, resulting in a positive conclusion."

It is understood the man has been taken to hospital.

The roads around the car park were cordoned off by police.
