Police have hailed a member of the public after helping to talk a man down threatening to jump from a town centre building in Blackpool tonight.

The drama unfolded just after 8.10pm when police were called to reports of a male on the roof of West Street car park.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "A member of the public did a really good job in engaging with the male and talking to him, resulting in a positive conclusion."

It is understood the man has been taken to hospital.

The roads around the car park were cordoned off by police.

Lancashire Police's Mounted division were in Blackpool and tweeted they "have attended two incidents of ASB, searched for a wanted male in the town centre and attended the scene of a person threatening to jump from a building".
